SEE IN CHRIST
23/05/24 12:24
George said to Jesus, ‘Lord teach us to see.’ Jesus replied, ‘I will. I will also teach you to be in my life without limit. This post is about being - being sons and daughters of God not just in word but in being – which means spirit and truth. One with God in Jesus we both ‘be’ and ‘see’ because we are one with light and life.
WISDOM
‘For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace’ Isa 9.6 NIV. This implies that Christ is not a cover-all for believing nonsense.
PEOPLE WHO KNOW
‘Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them’ Acts 6.3 NIV.
SPIRIT AND WISDOM
Some of us are full of neither. Others while expressing the gifts are not wise. The Spirit of Wisdom and Truth is not restricted to churchianity but is a quality of new creation people growing the Kingdom of God. A full life in Christ enables us to see what it real in the church and in the world. To be anti-life is to be anti-christ.
We can be smug in our received ideas, nice people that we are, we can be as irritating as the boof-head who thinks Christ’s grace is a licence to be ignorant and un-informed. God does not condemn us for living in ignorance because we condemn ourselves. Devastate ourselves when our businesses are flooded out and our homes are consumed by the bushfires caused by the climate change we bleat about not existing.
PRINCES IN WAITING
There’s nothing Godly about hiding from reality in a wisdom-phobic mentality – like a frog in the desert waiting for the next wet. This is what we do when addicted to our own ideas. But Christ is both light and life waiting to turn frogs into kings and priests of His life.
HUMBUG
We don’t get to be one with God by our own efforts. We don’t get Jesus by earning Jesus with good works. Neither do we gain access to Jesus by ‘keeping close to Jesus.’ There are no ‘steps to Christ’ because Christ has already made Himself one with you. There is no condemnation in Christ Jesus and no separation in Christ Jesus.
FREE GRACE
Thomas Torrance observes that “Abraham .. would offer his best, his only son. We see that his offering is displaced by God who himself provides the lamb. Substitution and free grace are identical. Cain’s way of approaching God runs against God’s grace, even though it uses God’s gifts.” (1) Our best will never suffice even if it a most sincere observance of the law. Law adherents may be devout but never fully alive. The grace of Christ our life is that Jesus in every way becomes us.
CHRIST OUR HERE LIFE
The incarnation, being Christ come in our flesh is quite different to the Greek philosophical version of holiness. Here mysticism represents man’s inherent desire to return to heaven at its purest. In Christ, however the things of the earth are not impure. God came among us in the person of Jesus Christ and Jesus is with us now in the spirit, which is Christ come in our flesh. You have a mandate to restore the earth.
HE IS HERE
In the Kingdom Jesus began, God is not somewhere else. Neither is God restricted to some ‘sacred’ time or place. God simply is and in Christ God is in you and in us. Humans have union with God because God in Christ has come to be in them. God loves you and the world. We are co-labourers in His re-creation life.
Jesus among humans was God with us. Here was an endorsement of ordinary life if ever there was one – which makes life extra-ordinary. Jesus is in us now by the Spirit on account of the incarnation and the gifts of the Spirit. The incarnation is the root. The gifts are the fruit.
NO DUALISM
God is not divided from us in the Kingdom Jesus began. God is woven into us in the person of His Son and similarly we are woven into God. This being the case God gets woven into our life and the un-saved see life in the people of God. Thus, heaven invades earth not on account of an anointing but because of the reality of the incarnated life of God in our being. Earth is not unholy and is actually the arena of the manifestation of God through God’s sons in the world of Every Day. This is the expanding new creation.
‘Duality’ was spawned as a result of the fall and the resulting separation from God. Dualism is the creature of the knowledge of good and evil – itself the result of separation from God and the substitute for union with God. The main delusion of the knowledge of good and evil vision is the delusion of sacred and secular. In this age Christ is all and in all. We have a Sabbath Life.
ONE WITH FATHER
There is nothing dualistic about the Kingdom Jesus began. He said, ‘I and My Father are one’ and desired the oneness for us that is the oneness He and His Father enjoy.
When Paul declares that ‘The two have been made one’ this is not just about Gentiles and Jews. It’s about humanity and God. In Christ we are woven into God’s being in a way that both retain the uniqueness of who they are. We don’t lose identity in God. We gain it. It’s perichoresis and true holiness. This is the living way in which we are holy as God is holy.
A DIFFERENT AGE
People were assisted by the Holy Spirit before the cross but none were woven into God. In our age God is in us and we become the manifestation of the trinity - if we believe. We can deny this by living from an Old Testament mindset. This is burying our talent in the ground.
Compared to Christ our life (incarnation) the attempt to be holy by means of the law and religion is a faint shadow of the Real.
We can live in the law and be the manifestation of Adam. In Christ all are made alive. Incarnated holiness is real because it’s not just ‘inwardness’ and introspection. Nor is it externalities which is the bane of the humanist world and its addiction to political correctness. Life that is whole and holy is Christ come in our flesh. There is nothing more real than you as the manifestation of Christ. This is the genius of life in the Spirit. The Spirit of Christ manifests as us.
‘Realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you’ John 14.20.
